SENDING LIQUBR TO THE KING COUNTRY.
[rBBSS ASSOCIATION.] TE KUITI, March ISAt the Magistrate's Court; tcfday; before JNfr. ;L<>nghnan ? S.M.,,^^ Hyde, of Te Awatriutuy* • was v charged with supplying George Wilkinson, of Hangataki, a half-caste, with liquor. He pleaded guilty, but said he was unaware that Wilkinson was a halfcaste.
A , letter written by Wilkinson, which, was well and grammatically written and signed "Wilkinson," said ; that he did not know he was breaking the law. The magistrate heH that Wilkinson was more guilty than the defendant, but directed that no prosecution be instituted, because evidence given on oath in future would deal with half-castes ordering liouor. Brewers should make inquiries respecting orders coming from the King Country and ascertain if they were from: half-castes. The offence was serious, but as v it was the first of the kind' he would be fined £5 and 12s costs. .
Hatrick and Coy., Waitaria, on two charges of sending liquor into the King County without advising the clerk of the Court of the quantity and destination, was fined £5 on each charge and costs 7s. A Kerr, an hotelkeeper, Waitaria, for the same offence was fined £1, and 7s costs.
