HAVELOCK.

[from our correspondent.] Friday.

THE RECREATION GROUND

The Town - Board, in resolving at its last meeting 'to allow cattledrivers to paddock sheep on the recreation ground, Eas aroused some indignation and comment on the part of a ' number of tennis and croquet I players. The tennis club were given permission to-prepare a portion of ,the ground for tennis and croquet purposes,' and no one will deny that the ground derives great benefit from I their occupation. If the Board is I not financially strong enough to exI pend the necessary money on the upkeep, of the remaining portion of the ground, possibly the Tennis Club would preferably contribute an 1 amount equivalent to any revenue the Board is likely to derive from grazing than suffer its present qtlite impossible state, the courts being quite unfit for tennis. Furthermore, the ground was donated to the town' for recreation purposes, and not" as a source of revenue, and it would appear, that the Board has made (maybe unintentionally) a breach of the donor's intention. It is to be hoped that the resolution will be rescinded at next meeting.
