ADVICE TO THOSE IN LOVE.
Whon a lady you would woo, Curb the force of your devotion; Don't as many lovers do, Overflow with rash emotion. Bow to Cupid's sweet decrees, , Welcome ir you must' his fetter; Plead your cause, but do not, please, Do not v/rite your love a letter. Hearts are very apt to cool, Other maids may seem inviting, And a man's an awful fool To commit.hiraself in writing. So refrain your ink to spill; You will find 'twill be much better, Speak all burning words you will, But- don't writ© your love a letter. Think of breach of promise cause, ' Think of laughter so provoking, Think of legal wits, and pause; They will turn your love to 'joking. If you don't you'll surely be— Take my word —her sordid debtor; "Stuck" and "stung" and "up a tree," ' . So don't write your love a letter. For these notes when read in court Sound so very, very stupid. Deepest feeling seems but sport; Momus merely trips up Cupid. Then be warned, or very soon You'll bo sorry that you met her, And you'll say, "You silly spoon, Why did I write my love a. letter?
