Tho Methodist Conference has appointed Mr C. C. Bottomley to the position of Home Missionary at Picton. . ' The Roy. G. W. J. Spence, President of tho Methodist Conference, is on a short visit to Marlborough. Mr Spenoe will conduct the .service in Wesley Church to-morrow evening. Archdeacon Calder, of Auckland, has received correspondence from Melbourne regarding the appointment of Archdeacon Crossley to the Bishopric of Auckland. The general tone of the letters he has received, he told a reporter, is one of consternation at the loss of so excellent a man. He has also received letters ot congratulation from the Bishops ot Christchurch, Dunedin, and Melanesia upon the choice of the synod. The Government has appointed Dr W 0. Percival, for twelve years in practice at Cambridge, Waikato, medical officer at Rarotonga, Look Islands. Dr C. H. Schumacker, formerly of Gisborne, has been appointed Government medical officer at Niue. It is the intention of the Hon. J. Carroll, Minister in charge of the Cook Islands, to send an officer to the Islands to investigate certain matters there. Owing 'to the'absence of the Prime Minister and another member of the Cabinet Mr Carroll will be unable to go himself. ; Dr Frengley, District Health Officer, Wellington, has been-appoint-ed medical secretary of the Public Health Department."
