PICTON ROAD BOARD.

The Picton Road Board meeting, which, was "held yesterday afternoon, was attended by Messrs N. Bragg, GRandal^ F. Smith, jr., and F; Neal. . In'the absence of the Chairman, Mr D'Arcy Chaytor, Mr Bragg was voted to the chair. "THIRDS." The Commissioner of Crown Lands forwarded a schedule, showing the amount of "thirds" available for expenditure, and asking the Board to furnish a schedule of the proposed expenditure. The schedule, as <l-awn up by the Secretary and Inspector, was approved. WAIRAU BRIDGE COMMISSION. A notification was received from Mr Short, Commissioner, stating that the Royal Commission to allocate the cost of construction of the Wairau ■bridge at Renwicfc had heen adjourned until April 3rd. Messrs Bragg and Seater were ap^ pointed to represent the Board at the Commission. Mr Short also sent, for the Board's information, a copy .of the tally prepared by the Pelorus Board showing -the traffic for the two months endr irig 31st December, a copy of which "had also teen sent to all local bodies interested. THE COUNTIES ACT. The Secretary of tEe County Council wrote suggesting that a petition be prepared for signature by local bodies asking the Minister for Pubtic Works to postpone the 'bringing in of the Counties 3ct. The Chairman reported that Tie had already signed the petition. EXCHANGE OF ROADS. A letter was received from the Pelorus Road Board agreeing ' that the Board's consent to the exchange of roads in the Waikakaho be withdrawn, and that .the available "thirds" be spent1 as.desired by the: settlers. In connection with this matter, Messrs A. and .T. Wratt waited on I the Board objecting to the exchange of roads as now proposed, as the road! to the Superintendent's property would not properly abut on the road through, their section, 115. i After .the deputation had with- , drawn the Board discussed the question, and it was decided not to take any action until the Pelorus Board's Inspector and their Inspector had conferred and reported to the Board. WAIKAKAHO BRIDGE. The Inspector reported that the Waikakaho bridge was in a bad state of repair. , Mr Smith moved, and Mr Randall .j seconded, that when the two inspectors conferred about the roads, they should also inspect,the bridge with a view to repairing, the decking, and report to the Board. The motion was carried. TOURIST TRAFFIC. The Tourist Department drew the ! Board's attention to the fact that tourists, when travelling throughout the Dominion, were frequently inconvenienced by iiEe absence of finger-posts where roads diverge. As the letter did not apply to the Board, it was received, and no action taken in the matter. RAILWAY EXTENSION. A letter was received from the President of the Land and Railway League stating that at the opening of the Seddon to Ward railway, which would soon be finished, it was proposed to have an imposing and fitting ceremony to celebrate the occasion, for which funds would have to be forthcoming. He asked the Board to what extent they w<>uld be prepared to donate to the fund. After a short discussion, during which many reminiscences of the railway opening at Seddon were recalled, it was decided, on the motion of Messrs Smith and Randall, to donate £5 towards the fund. FINANCIAL STATEMENT. The following financial statement was submitted: Cash in Bank, £2 6s; cash in hand, £46 16s lid; rates, 1909-10, 19s 3d; rates, 1910-11. £238 17s 8d; rent due, £3 10s; goods in hand, £1 9s; expenditure, £121 5s lOd.
