Herr yon Bethmam-Hollweg, the Imperial Chancellor, speaking in the Prussian Diet, gave a quiet but emphatic warning to the Vatican in connection with the recent decree. The Government declined to dissolve the Catholic faculties at the Universities, but were decidedly of opinion that the.Catholic clergy and teachers who taught German and history in the State schools should not do so after having subscribed to the Modernist oath.
