PAGEANT FOR WELLINGTON.

BOYS' INSTITUTE ENTERPRISE.

. Wellington, like many places in. older countries, is to have its pageant. Arrangements are being made l>y a committee of the Boys' Institute to bring such an event to pass on a large scale some time next spring. Communications have been, opened with various authorities, including, the secretary and organiser of the large historic pageant which recently took place in South Africa and the great forthcoming Coronation pageant, with, a view to producing facsimile representations of the various tableaux which arc being designed for the latter occasion. Scenes ■illustrative of the national life and history of New Zealand will also be presented. It will be remembered that a special effort was made last year to raise the sum of £5000 for- a building for the institute, and another £5000 for an endowment. The effort was seriously handicapped, owing to the overlapping of the Children's Hospital campaign, but notwithstanding this, the sum of £5000* has now been, .reached with which it would be possible to go on with the buliding immediately. Two large gifts, one of £535 from a generous friend of the institutej- who has modestly adopted , for the 'occasion, the pseudonym "Square," and "another: of £250 from a donor who is only to be known in this connection as "Round," have'made up the fund to £5000. The committee, after.con.cultation with the donor of the site, has decided not to start the building until at least £2500 out of the further £5000 required for the endowment fund has been subscribed. It is to raise this sum that the proposed pageant is to be held. Any ladiesor gentlemen willing to assist should leave their names and address with. Messrs Cx. and T. Young, jewellers, Lambton Quay.;.
