The Secretary for -Education advices tli at a grant has been made to the above institution of £10 17s 4d. This is the largest subsidy granted for many years, and a number of new books will arnve shortly from Wellington. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. .At-the above meeting, held last evening, the headmaster (Mr l*ittord) reported that" £10 had been paid on account of the piano, being the surplus from the school concert, and that the Education Board, who had been advised to that effect, would probably forwarded the subsidy within a few days, when the whole-of .the debt would be cleared off. MAGISTRATE'S COURT. The following actions were heard this morning, judgment being given a?, follows:—A. Reade v. A. Pope, claim, for £2 10s 6d-mdgment granted with £1 5s costs. F. Kabfits (fruit inspector) y. John Bow n and J. McCaUum, for failing .to eradicate pests from orchards.—Judgment for £1 with.. 7s costs each. SSing and Co. v. Allan Patterson. -Judgment for 4s, Bd, forthwith or one week's imprisonment- , PRESENT ATION.
The many friends of Mr Bower, the factory, presented Mr IJowex wrth a cheque and a testimonial in "smoker" was held afterwards.
