The 'Borough Cofcicil drew the Board's attention to-the state of the drains near the White Bridge. The settlers had guaranteed; to pay onethird of the cost, if the Council and Omaka Road Boaril would each pay ■ one-third. ! Mr Parker moved that the Board pay one-third of the cost ,of cleaning out the outlets leading from the ■ Co- | operative Drain to the sandhills. Mr Tapp seconded the motion, which was carried. THE CGraraSTES ACT. The Minister for Internal Affairs acknowledged receipt of the resolution ■to the effect that- fche Board should request the Government to suspend vCounties Act Jor one year, and stated that it wouH receive favorable consideration. THE LINE TO WARD. The president of the Land and Railway League informed1 the Board that the railway extension from Seddon to Ward would soon fee completed, and to celebrate this in.a manner worthy of the occasion it was proposed to hold a banquet. For this, "sinews of wiar,'" in. the shape of funds, would have to.be forthcoming, and he asked to what extent the Board would be prepared to donate towards this object. Mr Hani contended that it was* not fair to give the ratepayers' money away in thi*. manner, and asked )f it wore legal. The ".Chairman explained to the meeting that no definite reply had been received .to the Board's request to tho Government asking that Mr Sharp, Assistant .Engineer of the rublie Works Department, be allowed^to prepare plans and specifications for three bridges to be built in the Awatere "district. Parker moved, and Mr I'app seconded, that tenders for the building of three bridges in the Redwood Pass!bo culled for by next meeting, and that the chairman call a special meeting -to -consider tflaem if necesUpon th© chairman's suggestion, tho secretary was instructed to telegraph to the Government, and ask for aretslv to-day. On the recommendation of Mr Howard, it was decided that Mr G. Ooleman be appointed to thie position of secretary, under the same conditions and with the same salary as Mr Howard. WAGGON-TAX. A letter was received from Mr Fowler, v;aggon<iriver, in which he objected to paying the waggon-tax because he was not going to use the Board's road.—Received. FARNHAJVL Mr Tapp moved, that the footpath!? at Farnhani. which have already been metalled by the settlers, be cleared of scrub &nd weeds, and that 25 chains! of road from Springlands to the Farn- j bam main road be metalled. j The chairman seconded, and the motion was carried1. INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The Inspector's report and recommendations therein were adopted. TENDERS. The. tender of Mr Candy for the painting of the Otnaka and Fairhall bridges with two coats of paint for £16 6s was acceptedACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £263 Os 2d were passed for payment.
