TARANAKI MATCH

Shooting has started at the DOO ."yards of the Taranaki Match, lO&hots. The weather is bright and the light .good, and there is little wind. Most interest is centred in the ©hooting of the higher aggregate men. Frank, the leader, was one of the first to s,hoot, and put on 35. Hay and Craw- were both in the last squad. The former put on 45, and the latter 37.

The best scores were:—Hartn<3ll (Taranaki), Grant (Taradale), and Shiarknd (Nelson), 43; Thompson (Napier). Tobin and Holben (Auckland), Focke (Wellington), 47. The result of the firing was to plac£ Hay within one point of Frank, and Craw within 9. points. Needham (Linton) made 44, and Root (Kapcnga) 46, and both passed Craw, the position being Frank, Root, .Storkey. Craw.,

At the 1000 yards the weather was still fine. Craw m.-ide 38, Hay 36, and Root mado another 46, which placed his aggregate at 448; Sharland 43, which gav-e him 44 1.

At the present Root is leading with 448, and Hay third with 44(K Very few have yet fired at the 1000 .yards.

Colcnel Collins announced to the men this afternoon that a team would "be- sent to Bisley ,jthi& year; aisp .that lie hoped tb'arranee for the Dominion -to be represented at the Empire Match in Australia. He coujd see - a way in which this could bo done without much cost to the Government.
