Mme> Clara Butt's sudden illness may serve to recall the eminent singer's misfortune in the way of ill- . health. "Among my three, sisters and myself, all of us being: singers, my i throat is the worst of, the lot, and not in the least like a singer's throat,"' she once confessed. She has undergone several operations. "On every single occasion," she says herself. "I have sung in Full voice while under the influence of the ansesthe- I tic." It must have been a novel experience for the operating surgeon!
