Serious conflicts have occurred between the crews of the .Newfoundland fishing boats arid the gendarmes, The fishermen struck for increased wages and refused to allow the boats to sail. The gendarmes intervened and a number of fishermen and police were seriously injured, and <orie woman was killed.
