SPRING GREEK RIVER BOARD

•■— • : — ■■■/'■ The Spring Creek River Board met yesterday afternoon, the meeting being attendeoSby Messrs J. Gane (chairman), W. Murray, C* Reeves, W. Gifrprd, and F. Redwood. Leave of absence was granted to Mr H. Cheetman. ■•'•"'■ FINANCE. The financial statement submitted was as follows :--Credit balance at bank, £58 9s 4d; rent of reserves, £1 10s; irterest on fixed deposit, £10 10s; rates, £267 4s lid,-10 per cent, penalty 4d* total, £340 14s 7d. REMOVAL OF WILLOWS. The Secretary reported that he had visited the river from the Opavva bridge to Thomson's Ford with th.3 Lower Wairau River Board inspector, and recommended that the willows be cleared out of the centre of the river. It wias resolved that the willows be cleared out of the river-bed as recommended, and that dynamite or an engine, if .necessary, be used to remove' the large trees. It was decided, on the motion of the Chairman and Mr Murray, that Mr Adams be granted another month in which to complete his contract of1 clearing willows from Watson's to the Dairy Factory. RABBITS, It was resolved that the* Stock Department be asked to clear all banks and flood gates of rabbits at once, and. that as soon .as this was done the Board should compel the propertyowners -to fill in the rabbit-burrows, PROTECTION WORKS. It was reported that two erosions had occurred by Jones's, near the Wairau Pa, and they had become so dangerous that they had to be fenced. It was resolved that the protection works all along the river banks be at-' tended to. The Chairman reported that the Land Board had let the river-bed of th© Wiarau River, and that the lessee was cutting th© manuka from the river-bed, thus destroying the protection of the banks. The Secretary .was instructed to write to tlm Land Board objecting t'j the manuka being cut,, and also that ho immediately prevent the lessee from cutting it. ■;' A LEAKY CULVERT. Mr Man ay informed the Board that the culvert along the Wairau River near his place was leaking badly. He thought that the Boagrd should inspect it. . ■ It was decided that the -Board meet one day in the : last week of thi-; month to inspect the culvert. PATE OF MEETING. Owing to the Wairau Bridge Commission meeting on the date of the Board's next meeting, it was decided to meet on Monday, 10th April.
