THE HAVELOCK MEETING.
Preparations are now complete for the Hacelock races on Wednesday next (says the Pelol-us Guardian), and only fine weather is needed to make the gathering entirely successful from every point of view. , Mr W. Twidle's trbtter Koterepuhi was mysteriously knifed in the hindquarters whilst on the course a few days ago. . Whilst exercising Mr A. Stratford's Lady Mildred on the course on Tuesday Mr W. Twidle had an exciting experience. The mare had a rather poor moath, and was continually fight: ing for her head. After a fast sprint down the straight Mr Twidle pulled her up, but she was inclined to go on, and reared in a dangerous style; in coming to earth again she crossed her legs and fell, breaking one of her forelegs just above the' fetlock. Tho poor animal was put out of pain with a bullet by Mr R. Brownlee, jun. This is very hard luck for Mr Stratford, for the mare was much fancied for the Foal Stakes, being very speedy. It is not very long since Mr Stratford lost :a fine yearling by Sensation.
