, , „,„ THE RECENT COMPACT

Delegates representing every electorate in the Dominion are expected to attend th No-License Convention and annual meeting of the New ZeaJacT Alliance, to be held in Wellington from June 22 to 24 inclusive. There are 76 electorates, and each is entitled to send two delegates. Provision is made for representation by proxy when direct representatives are not available. The deliberative meetings will be held in St. John's Schoolroom, a tea meeting will be held in the Taranaki Street Methodist Schoolroom on Wednesday, June 22, and there will be public meetings in the Town Hall on June 22 and 23.

The question of the compact which was arrived at during last session with representatives of "the Trade" will be very fully discussed, and finally decided so far as the No-License party is concerned. Among the delegates who have notified their intention to be present are Mr Wesley Spragg, of Auckland, president of the New Zealand Alliance; Mr A. S. Adams, of Dunedin, vice-president; Rev. P. Isitt (Wellington), Rev. L. M. Isitt (Christchurch), Rev. R. S. Gray (Christchurch), Rev. A. Doull (Auckland), Messrs R. A. AVright, T. E. Taylor, H. G. Ell, J. Stallworthy, and E. H. Taylor, M.P.s; Rev. F. W. Chatterton, of the Anglican Maori College, Gisborne; Mrs Cole, of Christchurch, president of the New Zealand Women's Christian Temperance Union; Brigadier Albiston (Christchurch), and Mr Gilbert Carson (Wanganui).

Dr. J. Q. A. Henry will speak at the Town Hall on the Wednesday night, and will address the convention on Thursday afternoon. The united choir, which took part in Dr. Henry's recent Wellington mission, is being invited to lead the singing in the Town Hall, under the conductorship of Mr C. A. Potts, who will come to Wellington, with Mrs Potts, for the purpose.
