W. Bishop, S.M., on Saturday as a result of a threat to accomplish- a romantic suicide by means of razors last week (states the Lyttelton Times). Tapling admitted the truth of the charge, and under a close examination by the Magistrate said that he loved a girl and had discovered that she did not want him. According to the evidence for the police the defendant had two razors in his pocket, and bad threatened to cTit his own throat and that of the girl. The father of the girl had not been susceptible to the joys of romance, but had tackled the young man in. a practical manner, had taken the razors from him and handed him over to the police. Mr Bishop gave the young man some practical advice, and advised him to get over his romantic ideas. "There are plenty more women in the world," concluded the Magistrate. Tapling was then bound over to keep the peace for six months, in one surety of £50.
