MINISTER'S REPLY TO
PROTESTS.

AUCKLAND, April 6. The- Hon. R. McKenzde, dealing •with the allegation of unfair treatment of the North Island in the matter of railway expenditure, points out that £72,000 of the South Island railways vote last year was for works completed some time ago; that for roads last year the North Island was voted £195,000 more than the South Island; and that for roads and railways combined the figures were: North Island £635,750, South Island £603,743.
