Rain commenced early this mornSng, and fell heavily till noon, putting ian. end to all hope of continuing the test match this afternoon. If the rain clears off the match may be resumed ■to-morrow morning. T. Warne, a member of the Australian team, who has charge of the 'Carlton ground, says that Dunedin provided the only good wicket of the tour. There is no need to import soil to make wickets. The New Zealand soil is good enough, but care should be taken with the foundation. Mr ity Tame thinks that New Zealand cricket is likely to make no marked improvement until good wickets are provided
