DEAD MAN'S WIFE'S ACCOUNT OF THE AFFAIR

■■' [press association.] ■ CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 12 At the adjourned inquest touching the death of James F. Trengrove, who committed suicide- on Wednesday by cutting his throat, the deceased's wife, who was now m a fit state, gave evidence. She said that Trengrove had been given to intemperance. After he ill-treated- her on Wednesday morning she had packed her clothes, intending to leave the house Trengrove had said that she would never leave. He had got a tomahawk from the wash-house, and, rasing it with both hands, had struck her iieavily on the head. She had been stunned. Her husband had often threatened to "do for her and himself. He had been acting strangely for some time. The coroner, Avithout comment, returned a verdict of suicide while of unsound mind.
