HOUNDED OUT OF MANCHESTER

ESCAPES BACK TO AMERICA

[PKESS ASSOCIATION.] (Received March 13, 5 p.m.) LONDON, March 12. James Patten, the American speculator, was subjected to a hostile demonstration in the Manchester Royal Exchange. Members elbowed him and vshook their fists in his face, and compelled the cotton "^king" to take refuge in a neighbouring office. With the assistance of a strong police guard he escaped by the fire exit and immediately entrained for Liverpool, where he was sympathetically received.

Patten will sail for America again to-day.
