AUSTRALIA v. NEW ZEALAND.

FIRST TEST MATCH

The first test match opened in fine though threatening weather. Rain fell overnight, and the drying wicket will probably be in favor of the bowlers, as the Australians, on winning the toss, sent New Zealand to the wickets.

The New Zealand team is as already selected. The Australians omitted Dodds and Faey. Lusk and Siedeberg opened, Whitty and Armstrong bowling. Play ,was very slow. At 13 Siedeberg got his leg in front to Whitty.—l3—l—2. Midlane followed, but with one run added was bowled by Armstrong. — 14—2—0.

Haddon filled the vacancy, but at 17 tamely hit Whitty to Simpson at mid-off.—l7—3—l.
