[press association.] WAIHI, March 11. A fatal accident occurred at the Waihi Company's mine yesterday, a miner named J. O'Malley,. a singleman, being killed instantaneously, and his mate, F. White, a married' man, so seriously injured that he diedin the evening. It is surmised that the men lost their footing in the shaft when in the act of attaching a tackle block to the bar across the shaft. Probably oneman lost his balance, and, falling, knocked his mate off the ladder, thefall being about 170 feet.
