WELLINGTON WOOL SALES.

FEBRUARY PRICES ABOUT

MAINTAINED

(Special to Expkess.)

WELLINGTON, March 11. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report that the fifth wool sale of the season was held to-day, when the associated brokers offered a catalogue of some 2400 bales to a large gathering of local fellinongers and shippers, including some representatives of Home. and Continental houses. Bidding was fairly brisk, and the bulk of the lots were sold at prices quite equal to the February sale, considering the quality. Taken as a whole, the catalogue was a very unattractive one, containing many rough lots, and the prices obtained must be considered very satisfactory. Owners' prohibitive reserves were largely responsible for the passed-in lots. Some of our Marlborongh sales were as. follows:—W. Gifford, 3 bales lambs, Bjd; Chas. Gray, 1 bale lambs, 9£d; J. J. Jenkins, 6 bales £-bred lambs, 93d, 1 bale mixed fleece B|d; H. W. Rogers, 7 bales £-bred lOd, 2 bales merino part £-bred 9Jd, 1 bale I bellies and locks E sjd; W. Bell, 2 bales of lambs lOd; A. Thompson, 2 lambs, 9|d.

The range of prices, as compared with February rates, was: Half-bred, medium. — February 10£ dto ll|d. March: 10d.

Crossbred super.—February to Hid. March: None offering. Crossbred, medium.—February 9d to 10id. March: 9d to lOd.

Crossbred, inferior. — February 7£d to 9d. March: 7£d to Bld. Locks, bellies, and pieces.—February: 4d to Bd. March: 3fd to 7d. Lambs, super.—February: 10id to 12d. March: ?|d to ll£d. Lambs, medium.—February: B§d to 9d. March: 8d to 9d.

Lambs, inferior and seedy.—February: 6id to 6|d. March: 5%d to 6id.

Messrs Levin and Co. report as follows:—At the fifth sale of the season, held to-day, we offered 300 bales of wool out of a total offering of. 1750 bales. There was a good attendance of buyers for a sale of this season of the year. There was a good entry of lambs' wool, which sold well, though not up to the high range of the February sale. The fleece wool offering was shabby and heavy in condition, and contrary to expectations prices held their, own, and all lots realised last sale prices readily. The following are some of the prices realised:—

Lambs: XXX lljd; Marshlands lid; B lOfd; Pakohe 10£ d; MP 10* d; JW/Z 10|d; HC lOidj EB/K lOidj GB 10^d.

Crossbreds: IWP 10d: AJP 9M; GB*d;F9d.

We quote: Medium crossbreds 9Jd to lOd; coarse crossbreds 8d to 9£d; inferior crossbreds 7£d to 9d;. pieces and bellies s£d to 6§d; locks 3d to 4£d; lambs' wool, superior, lOd to Hid, medium 9d to lOd, inferior 7d to Bfd.
