RATES OF POSTAGE,

Letters and Letter-cards.—lnland, including Cook Islands, etc., Id for, the first 4oz. or fraction thereof ; and; Jd for each succeeding 2oz. United'Kingdonij British Possessions, Chili, Costa Rica, Egypt, Italy, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Paraguay, Portugal and Portuguese Colonies, Servia, Siam, some China Ports, and • Pago Pago, Id for each oz. or fraction thereof ; all other places, 2£d for th» first oz. or fraction thereof, and lid for each suceeding oz. or fraction thereof.

Commercial Papers—Town, id if not exceeding i oz., or Id for the first I oz. and id for each succeeding 2 oz. ; Inland, Id for the first 4oz. or less, and id for each succeeding 2 oz: Australia and all other places, 2id for the rst 10 oz., and id for eacH succeeding 2 oz. or fraction thereof. Registration—By prepayment of a fee of 2d in addition to the full postage any letter, newspaper, book, pr other packet may be registered td any place in the world. Parcels cam not be registered beyond the colony except to U.S.A. POST-CARDS.

Inland.—Single, id ; reply, I'd* All other places, single, Id ; reply, 2d Post-cards must be sent unclosed. Excepting stamps for prepayment and an address-label, nothing whatever may be joined or. attached to ti post-card for a place beyond the Colony. For delivery within the Colony receipt-stamps or slips of paper may be affixed to post-cards. < Reply Cards.—The reply half of a post-card received from any place outside of the colony can be sent without extra charge only to the country in! which it originated ; and must have been received attached to the corresponding half. Each of the two halves must fulfil the conditions laid down for single post-cards ; one half is doubled over the other, and they must not be closed up in any manner whatsoever.

Private Cards.—Private cards, including pictorial cards, bearing adhesive stamps may 1 also be used as post- cards. They must be composed of ordinary cardboard not thicker than that used for post-cards of the post-card pattern. The size must not be more than s£in. by 3iin., and not less than 4£in. by 2fin. For inland transmission the cards may be entirely plain ; but for transmission to places Deyond the colony reply cards must bear the words, " Post-card with Reply Paid," and " Post-card Reply." To other than English-speaking countries these words must appear in French, "Carte Postale avec Reponse Payee," "Carte Postale—Reponse." They are otherwise treated like officially-issued post-cards. Private cards will be received from the; public, and impressed with the penny postage-stamp. The rates for such impressing are—id envelopes (3Jin. x s|in.), 7sd doz. ; Id envelopes, ungummed (3|in. x 6in.), Is for 11 ; Id envelopes, ungummed (4|in. x sJin.), Is for 11. MAGAZINES. Inland, Id per lb. ; for the Austra- ■ lian Commonwealth (except QueensI land and Western Australia), —each copy of a registered magazine, not exceeding 20z., id. ; if over 2oz. and up to Boz., Id ; each additional 40z., or fraction, id. For Queensland, Western Australia, and all other places, as for printed papers. Magazines are registered on application to the Secretary General Post Offioe. Unregistered magazines are charged for at nrinted-paner rates. GENERAL REGULATIONS.

Letters—Letters not fully prepaid of posted wholly unpaid are charged double the deficiency at the prepaid rate on delivery. No letter may exceed 2ft. in. length or lft. in widtM or depth. Letters containing valuables musf be registered. Late^fee Letters, etc., must bear, in addition to the ordinary postage, Id.
