A tei'rible explosion occurred in a xange of boilers at the Distington Ironworks, three miles from Workiugton, as a result of which a great portion of the works was wrecked. Of the eleven boilers four were blown inixi space, five deranged, and only two remained intact. '" The-.boilers were at ordinary pjressure at-the time. Fortunately, it being a halflioliday, nobody was in the vicinity hut the man in charge, William Penrice, and he miraculously O3cnr>ed.
