: r>RBBS ASSOCIATION.] the Earl^ of Crewej in reply to a deputation of 14 members of the Forward Suffrage Union within the Women's Liberal Federation, said it was impossible to make votes for women a plank in the election. Dwelling on the sharp differences within the Government and Parliament, he remarked that if the question were put to the-House of Commons as it now stands suffrage would be beaten by a large majority. Changes in those now holding office in the party would certainly be involved in making the question a definite issue at the election, and the party would suffer a distinct loss of strength.
