SEVERE SHAKES IN WELLING-
WOMEN IN HYSTERICS
A HOUSE BURNT DOWN
[press association.]
WELLINGTON, Nov. 13. " A rather threatening earthquake occurred at 9.40 last night. Two shocks in quick succession were sufficiently severe to send'people scattering out of their houses, and niatfy women went into hysterics and fainted. Fortunately the shocks lasted only a second or two—were much shorter than usual,, in fact—and no damage was done beyond the upsetting of a lamp and setting fire to a house, in Kent Terrace; The shocks were unpleasantly strong while they lasted, and if prolonged would have been quite as severe as that of 1904.
