SWIMMING BATHS.

A GOOD CAUSE NEEDS HELP

Very slowly, but surely, the Swimming Baths Committee are attaining the object they set out to achieve— the establishment of public swimming baths in Blenheim., The contract for the cement tank has been let', and the work is well m hand. Xhe bath is some 3d; yards .long,, with a depth varying from 4ft.. to Bft., and the water is! supplied by a couple of artesian wells. There is an: outlet valve; which can be so .regulated that a /continuous supply of fresh water may be kept in the basin, but the inflow and outflow will not be so s sL ef£y as to render the water, too. cold for bathing purposes. The bath, will therefore be kept absolutely clean pud fresh, and when, finished will-be a boon to the^public of this town. There is still a matter of £100 wanted to erect a fence round the enclosure, and to build dressing rooms, etc., for the convenience of bathers, and . this money the promoters wish to raise as quickly as possible. The Harmonic Society, with commendable public spirit, have consented to repeat the cantata "Magna Gharta" on Thursday, 25th November, in aid of the funds, and there will be, prior to the performance, a miscellaneous concert given by our leading singers and musicians. For itself the entertainment will be worth the admission money, which has been fixed at 2s and Is, and tickets may be obtained from the secretary (Mr D: P. Sinclair) or any member of the committee. N6w that the completioft of the. object is practically in sight, the public generally, for whom the committee is working, should give their small: offering towards it, and considering that the concert is being held for such a worthy and public-spirited object, there should be such a house on the 25th as to pay off all that will be required for the purpose of haying ah-up-to-date swimming bath in our/town. All. those who wish to co-operate with the committee in the matter will be heartily welcomed by the secretary.
