MISS AMY CASTLES.

After seven years' absence Miss Amy Castles has arrived back in Australia. Miss Castles (says- a Fremantle writer) looks as ir' London and the Continent thoroughly agreed with her. She expressed great pleasure at getting back to the land of her! birtn, and is as enthusiastic as a schoolgirl going home on her holidays. On being interviewed, Miss Castles said the only regret she.had in coming home was that she left her; sisters in London. She expects to find the Australian air beneficial to her voice. Since she left Australia she has toured England, Scotland, Ireland, and the Continent, and'has received tempting offers to go to America. "I may go there," she said. "My principal success was achieved at Ostend, where my concert attracted five thousand people. At the Kursaal, where I had a gratifying reception, Caruso, who was there, was so pleased with my rendition of the famous prayer from 'La Tosca' that he introduced me to its composer, Puccini. As a result I will appear in grand opera on my ; return to Europe. During my absence I sang before the Queen of England. Her Majesty was most kind towards Australia, and ejaculated, 'I would like to seeithe place where so wonderful a lot of singers come from.' -jl also sang before, the Prince and Princess of Teck and the Duchess of Albany. The latter stated, 'I am very anxious to visit Australia, the country that has produced so many exquisite . song-birds.' Miss Castles opens her Australian season in the Melbourne Town Hall next Saturday, under the management of Mr Tait.
