AUCKLAND, yAug. 3. Three members of the crew of the mission steamer Southern pross lost their lives last might, their names being T. Mealand (chief steward), R. Rae. (chief engineer) and Jim, a native boy. ■""....■■ A boat left the vessel for the shore in the evening, containing, besides the above Houchen (chief ofljcer) and three natives. The men were to return after putting the officers ashore, but scarcely 'had~ they left, when a squall upset the boat and; t;hrew all i:->*o the water. Three of ,i]the , boys and the chief officer managed to* get into the boat, but the rest fiiied, and were not seen again. The b^ai drifted up the harbour, and ?ras picked up. •',' . .
