CHINESE TREACHERY.

MASSACRE OF AN ENGLISHMAN. [press association.] SYDNEY. June 14. Chinese files give details of the murder of Brooks, an English traveller, in the Lolo country. Brooks was accompanied by an escort of seven Chinese, including an interpreter. The- last-named deserted. A native attempted to attack Brooks with a sword. Brooks drew his revolver and shot his dead. He took refuge with another tribe pretending friendship, who induced Brooks to surrender his firearms; they then called in the previously hostile tribesmen, who massacred Brooks and four of his escort. The other two attendants were sold into slavery.
