Barker forwarded a plan showing the fenced and unfenced portion of the school ground, and also suggested that the matter of utilising the ground should be held in abeyance for the new committee to deal with. —Deferred pending the election of the new committee. Tahnahua. —The secretary of the Tahuahna School Committee informed the Board that he would procure the requirement sanctioned .by the Board from Pictou. He also applied for a heater.—lt was resolved that a heater be supplied. Flat Creek. —The secretary wrote complaining of the unsatisfactory condition of the school, and also asked to have the papers and cash sent to the Board by the late chairman returned. —A grant of £10 was made towards the repairs to the school, and it was decided that a report be procured on the work.—lt was also decided to fence in the school paddock, so as to enable the teacher to graze her horse there, at a cost of £4 10s. Fabian's Valley.—The Chairman of the Fabian's Valley School applied to have a chimney erected in the school, as the present one was unfit for use. He pointed out a new one would cost £12 10s.—The application was granted, and it was ordered that the chimney should be built.immediately. Carhike.—The secretary of the Car- ! luke Committee applied for a new corrugated iron tank for the school, and also for further accommodation,— The Secretary said that in 1908 a new tank was sent from Okaramio, of which no mention was made.—lt was decided that the secretary make inquiries as to tJ>e tank, and further that application be made to the Government for a grant of £150 lor increased accommodation. Canvastown.—The secretary of the Canvastown School Committee forwarded the tenders recived for paintIng the school, and also asked for a copy of the Education Act. He also reported that Mr Hill had been appointed head teacher at the school. An application for alterations to the teacher's residence was also made. — Mr Reader moved, and Mr Parker seconded, that Mr Reid's tender of £9 103 for painting, the school be accepted, and that the committee's application for £3 for repairing the school be also granted.—Carried. Renwicktown. — The Renwicktown School Committee applied to have the interior of the school painted.—lt was resolved to ask the committee to call for tenders for the work, and to accept the lowest tender, and that the work be done . during the winter mrtnths. '

Okaramio.—The Commissioner wrote pointing out that jio action had been taken with regard to the floor in the shelter shed, and that the matter was deferred for further consideration of the Board and the incoming committee. —Agreed to.—The same official wrote asking for a refund of £1 12s 6d paid by the committee for filling in a drain at the school.—Granted. Grassmere.—The Grassmere School Committee wrote requesting that the Inspector, pay a surprise visit to their school, and 'submit a report to be placed before the meeting of houseHolders.—The Inspector explained that the school had increased, and they were entitled to a certificated teacher, and he recommended that the present teacher be given notice of the termination of her present appoint-*

ment, and that applications for the position of a certificated teacher be called for.—Mr Penny asked what the Board intended to do with the teacher.—Mr Strachan said there were a number of appointments she could fill.—The recommendation was agreed to. APPOINTMENTS. Apple Bay.—Miss Sidney Shaw's appointment as teacher at Apple Bay was approved. Waterfalls. —Miss Kathleen O'Leary was appointed. SCHOLARSHIP REGULATIONS. The -Education Department wrote advising the Board to amend clause 5' of its scholarship regulations by substituting September. 15th for September 30th.

[ It was decided to open an aided school at "Weld's Hill under the usual conditions. The Commissioner at Kekerangu wrote informing the Board that the present school belonged to Mr Rutherford, and suggested that application be made for the old post office there to be used as a school. The Chairman pointed out that the Board in the past had spent money on the present school; and now it transpired that a private individual owned it. Mr Parker said, as an old member of the Board, he could explain that the money was spent on the understanding that the Board should have the use of the site and school for all time, rent free, but the then owners had sold out, and the Board was in a peculiar position. The matter was referred to Mr Smith, Inspector Strachan and Mr Hylton to report to the next meeting of the Board. The matter of looking into the state of the teacher's residence at Grovetown was referred to the Chairman and Messrs White and Penny for a report-. FINANCE. The Secretary submitted the following financial statement: —Credit balances: Administrative account £"43 17s sd, training of teachers £51 10s Bd, buildings £378 2s lid; total £473 11s. Debit balances: Teachers' salaries £G3 12s, manual and technical £24 7s 7d; total £87 19s 7d. Accounts amounting to £317 2s 4d were passed for payment. The Secretary reported that the Board's credit at the Bank was £328 16s 2d. Accounts amounting to £22 8s 8d were passed for payment, and the meeting closed.
