j g: r> —There are a few printer's errors in your report in Saturday's and this day's issue of my lecture on "Words. 1' They are due, no doubt, to the illegibility of my notes. Will you permit me to refer to them. Dean French" should read "Dean Trench. "Dr. Thewell" should read "Dr. Whewell." "Ralph Waldo Simerson ' should be "Ralph Waldo Emerson. I The word "philosophy" used in the i second sentence of the first paragraph ! in colunm &of Saturday night's issue ' ; should be "philology." The word "Romanised,'' used in reference to the title, Czar, of the Russian _ Em- ! peror. should be "Russianised." The I reference to '"tariia," in the 22nd J line of the third column of the same issue should be "the Moorish name. Tarifa. of a fortress," etc. The words "Saxon clort" in the last paragraph.. but one of the same column should be j "Saxon churl." The words "spinale side" in the paragraph referring to spinster in the first column in last night's issue should be "spindle side./ The words "pollice trvmo-cus," in reference to a poltroon, should be "pollice truncus."" /'Considers," in the paragraph referring to the influence of "the stars, should be "considere." "Alknon," the Greek name of the kingfisher, should be "Alkuon." The word "of" in the paragraph referring to the word "ambrosial."' should read "or," ar,d the word "skull" in the meaning given of _the word- "sarkage." should be "skin," the word meaning "to flay the skin or tear the flesh." I am conscious of the illegibility in these respects of my notes, and I do not blame the printer, but I shall be very much obligdd if you will insert this list of corrections. —I am. etc., THEO.
