[fbosi ouk cokrespondent.7

Monday. On Saturday there was some very good shooting at the butts here. After some very close shooting Mr Packer was successful in winning the trophy. At the debate on Saturday night the subject chosen was: "Was Sir Joseph Ward justified in offering England a Dreadnought?" Mr James ' Hughes led on the negative, supported by Mr Hill and Mrs J. K. Hart. Mr H. Spear led on the affirmative, supported by Mr F. Ball and Mr John Leonard. After a very good address, particularly on the affirmative, a ballot was taken, and the negative was registered by a small majority of three. The tennis ball held here on Friday night was well attended, and a great success financially. The Canvastown Hockey Club are all junior prayers except three. Next Saturday the Canvastown juniors meet the Havelock juniors on the Canvastown ground lor a friendly game of hockey.
