SATURDAY'S MATCHES.

There was only one senior match played on Saturday afternoon —Central v. Moutere; the other (Awatere v Opawa) being declared otir oy tiie cluhs concerned. The trouble arose through the action of the Lmon in ordering the Central-Mouterc fixture to be played in town instead ot at Spring Creek. From what can be learned it appears that at the last meeting of the Union it was agreed that, with a view to securing a larger cate' and provided that all the deleSates were of one mind, tfao game should bo contested on No. 1 ground. All the delegates were of one mind, but when the matter came before the Opawa Club objection was raised, the result being that all four teams came to the Show Giminds expecting to play on the one field. There was a deadlock, and the members of the Union -present met and decided that Central and Moutere had the prior right to No. 1 ground. Thereupon the Awatere and Opawa teams left the field and returned to the pavilion. It is not proposed here to deal with the rights and wrongs of the case; doubtless the matter -will be threshed out at Tuesday's meeting of the Union. The struggle between the Central and Moutere teams was worth going a long way to see, for from kick-off to no-side it bristled with incident. There was a large and enthusiastic crowd present, and neither side secured any advantage from the weather, there being no sun and no wind. The match was not started until half-past three on account of the unpleasantness above referred to, and it was almost dark when the whistle blew its final blast. Both teams were in great nick, otherwise they would not have lasted the distance, as the pace was so hot. Neither team attacked for very long > at a time, for something would occur that, quick almost as a flash, turned attack into defence. The forwards carried off first honours, both sets of backs being deficient in passing, although several good bouts were witnessed. Taken throughout, the match

was by far the best that lias been seen on the local ground for a long time, and was greatty appreciated by the spectators. Following are the results of the games played on Saturday: —

SENIOR CUP.. Central 6, Moutere 3. JUNIOR BANNER. Awatere 6, Moutere 0. Central B 21, Central A 0. Waitohi 6, Opawa 0.
