THAT TIMBER COMMISSION.

(By Frank Morton.)

"--The Timber. Commission has sat here and there, taken, voluminous evidence and reported. Incidentally, it has wasted a lot of public money, and it- has given some members or rarliajtnent a pleasant and profitable trip about the country. The evidence has been of two varieties, evidence of the sawmiller, and evidence of the sawmill hand. For all the value of it, it would have been well to get one representative witness of each faction, and so have, done; but the Commission mumbled on interminably, wading into a jumble of evidence, and the Commissioners drew- their fees and were content. The Commission has accomplished nothing, and has done nothing to clear the way. It has 3 ust been one of these farces of which sensible New Zealanders are becoming so heartily sick. The taxpayer pays, poor dupe.
