GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKETS. (Christchurch Press, Saturday.) The local wheat market is at a standstill at present. The exporters are not operating in consequence of the absence of shipping space, and millers, who are now well stocked up for the time being, not making any inquiry. There is not much wheat I offering, and growers are holding • firmly, bearing in mind, no doubt, the recent fall and recovery. '* Few oats are offering, and most of the lots that change hands are small, and prices remain without alteration. Potatoes have further advanced, and 60s is now offered. The principal demand is from Wellington, for which market consignments bought for Auckland have been resold. Napier, Gisbome, and the West Coast of the South Island are also taking supplies, i but Auckland is largely depending still on the local crop. A good deal is being made of the fact that some crops have, been damaged by blight, and others on heavy land by the rains of a few weeks ago. The area under crop in the Dominion is, however, about 2000 acres more than last year,; and though the, yields are somewhat irregular, some growers are lifting heavy crops. The Derwents are most affected by blight and wet, but this variety does not form anything like the proportion it once did. The Southland crop is an unknown quantity at

present, as there are reports that blight is prevalent this year.
