CELEBRATIONS IN CHRISTCHURCH.

CHRISTCHURCH, May 15: . The Mayor has proclaimed.Empire Daj a" public holiday optional- to shops and factories. V At present: the only attempt at public celebration is addresses to the public school .cadets, who will parade at the' King Edward; Barracks/ and march to the statue of Queen Victoria. 'The Mayoi' and other prominent citizens will be the speakers. The Mayor favours a patriotic gathering, and will try to arrange it. He says that they should not allow this day,. with its many patriotic associations, to fizzle out. * i
