HAVELOCK.

[FROM OUR CpBBKSPONDKNT.T Friday. A very successful sale of work was held under the auspices of St. Peter's Ladies' Guild at the Town Hall yesterday. The weather was all that could be desired, which was very encouraging for all those who had been working so indefatigably to get the sale up. The bazaar was opened by the Rev. J.R. Burgin at 11 a.m. in a few appropriate -words. During the day there was quite a large attendance, coming from all parts of the district. Special notice should be taken of the Havelock Suburban ■

stall, which was organised by Mrs Simmonds, and gave evidence of the enthusiasm of the workers. The assistants- were Mrs Simmonds, Mrs Swafford and Miss Simmonds; fishpond, Misses Orsman and Rae. Mrs Elliott made a very efficient president. The work of the Secretary, Mrs M. Pickering, was performed with conspicuous ability. Following were the stall-holders: — Drapery stall, Mesdames A. 'Scott and Orsman; sweet, cake and bread stall, Mrs Rae and Miss Millar; produce stall, Mr J. Gorrie and therein he had' a lovely lot of fresh vegetables; fancy and book-stall, Mrs Brownlee and Miss A. Adams. The tea-room was under the control of Mesdames j. Gorrie, Parsons, Kreig, and Misses Jones and Farnell; shooting gallery, Messrs F. Gorrie and J. Millar; naildriving, Mr Reade. All did splendid business. Mr E.. Smith won the handsome painting presented by Mrs W. C. Smith in the shooting competition. There was keen interest in the shooting for the picture, -which was the work of Mrs W. C. Smith, the scene being Diamond Lake, Otago. A large iced cake was Avon by Mrs Morrison, of Carluke, for. guessing the correct weight (lllbs)l There were also two sheep given by kind friends for a guessing competition, and I believe Miss Hunter and Mr ■Forbes tied for one, guessing- 461bs, the correct weight being 47£lbs. The concert held during the evening was much enjoyed. The following programme was gone through:—Pianoforte solo, Mrs Malloy, "The Storm King": song, "Echo," Mrs _E. Powell'; songs, "The Land of Little Children" and "The Champion of the King," Rev. C. Powell; pianoforte duet, Misses' Header; songs, "The Skipper" and "The Mighty Deep," Mr Malloy; duet, "What are the. wild waves saying?" Mesdames Powell and Williams; pianoforte due£ Misses Scott; songs, "True till Death-'' and "Would You Care?" Mr D. Wells; song, "What will you do, Love?" Mrs Williams; pianoforte solo, Mrs Malloy; selection, "How to Furnish upon £4 10s," Dr. Williams. Mrs Malloy acted as accompanist during the evening, and Mr S., Pickering gave same amusing gramophone selections. Roughly speaking, the total proceeds from the bazaar will be £97, and the, expenses do not exceed £5, so the ladies will have a very lmndsome sum to hand in for their efforts of 1909. " A hockey match has been arranged for the 24th of May between the Takorika seniors and Takprika juniors. As the captain, Miss V. Powell, has been away for a few days, the teams will be. picked early next wdek. Miss Jessie Orsman, who met with an accident, during a hockey practice, being struck on the left \ eye with the ballj will soon be on the field again. I am glad to report
