'The Montreal Board of Trade, at a meeting held on May 7, unanimously agreed to submit a resolution to the Sydney Conference in favour of the Empire's protecting itself against foreign producers; hence Britain and the Colonies should grant each other substantial preference, and, as far as their respective revenues will permit, the piSntnple of free trade within the Empire .ishould remain.

■■Mr Ijreorge, ex-president J , was chosen^to, act as delegate to,the Sydney Conference, but h^s since resigned,- on-*lte ground that the resolution was Villrconsidered and at variance watii the national trade po^cy of'Catiada.

A special meeting of the Board will be held ia«ss:t week to reconsider the resolution.
