CONSIGNMENTS SOLD IN

MELBOURNE

Inquiries show that in about 1903 several thousand discarded MartiniHenry rifles were sold at auction, and were purchased by a Melbourne firm, and that in 1906 between 8000 and 9000 were sold to Greener's, of England, a iirm of gunmakers. The Minister for Defence was surprised upon learning this, and has now issued instructions that no rifles shall be sold unless they hare previously been rendered absolutely useless.
