SUCCESSFUL NEW ZEALAND STUDENTS.

LONDON, March 26. Two days ago the Universty of Edinburgh issued its class-merit lists for the winter session, and, as previously, the names of New Zealand students, chiefly those who are specialising in medicine, .stand out prominently among the successes. It will be noted that several have secured medals, in one or two instances two apiece; while first-class honor awards have been of frequent occurrence. In physics, second-class honors were secured by G. V. Bogle and G. Crombie. In the senior division of anatomy, the medallist is R. C. Begg, of New Zealand, who accordingly takes honors in the first-class. In the winter half-session of the same subject, honors in the second-class were gained by S. H. Arthur. In the first half-course, junior division, George Cronibie (Wairarapa) took a medal, with first-class honors, coming' out second in the examination. G." V. Bogle (Waipukurau) also took honors in the same division, and second-class honors were awarded to H. W. Wilson, F. N. Johns, H. 0. Washbourne, L. F. E. Jeffcoat (Dunedin). Two New Zealanders carried off first-class honors in the second half-course (winter), in anatomy, viz., G. V. Bogle and S. A. Smith, while F. N. Johns passed with honors in the second-class.

One New Zealand student, D. M. .Wilson, gained first-class honors in senior practical -anatomy, summer 1908, and first half-session, and three took them in the second-class, viz., H. F. Holmden, A. E. Moore and William Stewart. Second-class honors, second half-winter session, were awarded to Peter McNab.

First-class honors in practical anatomy, second-year students, fell to R. C. Begg, S. A. Smith and T. H. Horj^s. G. V. Bogle has taken firstclass honors in junior practical anatomy (second-year students, Bristo Street department), and F. N. Johns lias come off with honors in the secondclass.

George Crombie /heads the pass-list of first-year students, second half-ses-sion, in junior practical anatomy, and that position secures him, the medal; lower in the list appears the name of H. W. Wilson.

R. C. Begg, M.A., B.Sc, New Zealand, secures the medal and first place in the senior division of physiology, and second-class certificates have been awarded to G. V. Bogle, E. F. W. Mackenzie and Sidney A. Smith. In experimental physiology the following have taken honors in the firstclass:—R. C. Begg, A. L. Christie, T. H. Horrax, E. F. W. Mackenzie, Sidney A. Smith W. 11. Stewart; in the second-class, G. V. Bogle, F. N. Johns and M. B. Lawrie.

G. V. Bogle and Thomas H. Horrax have passed, with first-class honors, in chemical physiology, and S. Harcourt Arthur, Robert Begg and Sidney A. Smith with those of second-class value.

FirsVclass honors, with medal, fall to the lot of F. G. Bell, for pathology; second-class honors in the same subject to Claude B. Tudehope, W. X>. Reid, E. B. Gunson, A. E. Moore, William Stewart, W. J. Feltham, H. F- Holmden. The lasir-named . has taiien first-class honors in practical pathology.

In mataria mediea, J. Falconer Brown has gained first-class honors, and the following have been awarded honors of the second-class :-^J. Drummond, Malcolm, M. Morrison. R. C. Begg appears in the list of those who have taken first-class honors in practical materia mediea; the name of F. N. .Johns is among those who have gained distinction in the secondclass.

Another New Zealand medallist is W. Douglas Reid, who has in addition been awarded first-class honors in the junior division of medicine, as also

have J. Falconer Brown, J. Drummond, F. G. Bell, and (Jiaude B. Tudehope. To J. M. Murray, H. J. McCaw and C. C. lies have been accorded honors in the second-class. Some of the students were present only two examinations, including W. J. Feltham.

In midwifery and gynecology, New Zealand students appear to have done well. F. G. Bell is a medallist, with first-class honors, and similar honors have been secured by W. Douglas Reid, Wilfred J. Feltham, J. Drummond, Claude B. Tudehppe. The list of second-class honor awards includes the following New Zealand names:— E. B. Gunson, B. C. Tennent, John M. Murray, Malcolm M. Morrison, Hugh John McCaw, D. C, Monro. J. Falconer Brown was unavoidably absent from examination.

To G. L. Cawkwell (Auckland) has been awarded the medal and firstclass honours in the senior division of surgery, while in the junior division second-class honours have fallen to D. M. Wilson and 0. M. Rout.

Honours in the senior division of practical examination have been won by G. L. Cawkwell (prox. access), and the same student carries off the medal and first-class honours in diseases of the skin.

In the subject of advanced public health, Sydney T. Champtaloup, M.8., Ch.B. (Auckland), hjis come out with first-class honours, and he has also secured a first-class certificate in sanitary engineering and building construction.
