Wells and Snellj by lively cricket, carried the overnight score to 217; then Wells was brilliantly caught by Ransford, running, off O'Connor, low down at long-on. When 15 Wells gave an easy chance to O'Connor off Armstrong. The remainder of the team were quickly disposed of, the innings closing for f235, leaving the Australians 120 to get to win. The deficit was wiped off with the loss of one wicket. Bardsley and Hartigan, by 40 minutes' free cricket, put on 62 before the latter was stumped.
