WELLINGTON, May 13. A singular case was before the Court yesterday. '

Three policemen in civil dress were, on their way to the station to go on duty when, it is alleged, two of them assaulted the third, and a man;arid his wife who interfered were. knocked about. The latter complained. The two men were suspended, and yesterday were brought before t the Court to answer a charge of assault. Inspector Ellison appeared to prosecute.

The case was adjourned till Monday, no evidence being taken.
