The attendance -was fair. The Australians were four liours at the wickets, and the play was fast and interesting. Bardsley retired after adding a single to his overnight score. He gave a chance to Kingston in the slips during the same over. His leg-side play i was splendid. He was 100 minutes at ! the wickets, and hit nine fourers. Cotter indulged in his usual free I game. The Northants total was passed for 150 minutes' play. Trumper s innings lasted 90 minutes, his half-century appearing at the end of 80 minutes. He played sound, free cricket,' and hit eight fourers. He fell in trying to pull Thompson to midon.
- Armstrong's innings was -characterised by free all-round play. He made 50 in 59 minutes. During his two hours at the crease he gave no chance. His score included eleven fonrers.
The Trumper-Armstrong, partnership lasted 75 minutes, and added 100 runs.
