WESTERN MAORI SEAT.
HEARING OF THE PETITION
[press association.]
HAMILTON, May 12. The hearing of the election petition has nearly finished.
Eke Tone, one of the candidates, gave evidence that many natives, especially in the Taranaki district, never knew that the election wason, and did not know what ho visited them for.
Mr Earl addressed the Court. One of his points was that the votingpaper was the qualification, and if the paper were not signed first the elector was disqualified. Mr Justice Cooper said that the qualification was not the votiugpaper, but the fact that the voter was a Maori.
