SHEVKET OUTWITS THE REACTIONARIES.
A MASSACRE PREVENTED

LONDON, April 30. The Daily Telegraph's Constaintiaxople correspondent reports that Shevket Pasha made a forced march of fourteen hours, and occupied Con--ebantinople o>n Saturday instead of Sunday. He learned from Tewfik Pasha that preparations were being made for a general massacr© on Saturday^; 3i©nce, in order to take the reactionaries unawares, he announced that Abdul Hamid would not be dethroned.
Advices from Smyrna state that the recent massacres in Asia Minor were planned in Constantinople, with a tview to provoking the intervention of the Powers and ending the constitu•taonal (regime. The town of Adana has been Tnramt. TJie survivofrs are dying of famine.
