CHRISTCHURCH, April 21. Mr R. McNab, who passed through Christchurch yesterday on his *.ay to Wellington, intends to leave early next month for Hobart, to conduct researches in connection Avith the historical work upon which he is engaged. From Hobart he will go to Sydney, and then to England. It is possible, however, that he may alter his arrangements in that direction. On beine; asked by a reporter if he intended to re-enter public hie, Mr McNab said that ho would be a candiate at the next election, and that he would hold himself in readiness to enter the lists when the campaign took place. He was reading the proofs of the second edition ot " Murihiku " at the time, and he said that it would be published by a Christchurch firm in about five weeks. It deals with the whole of the South Island, beginning with Tasman's visit in 1642 and concluding with the end of the whaling season in 1835. It will be illustrated by representations of early navigators' charts, and sketches taken I'rom logs.
