ST. GEORGE'S SOCIAL

The annual social function of St. George's Society is always looked forward to with much interest, and the crowd that assembled at St. Patrick's Hall last night showed that this year's gathering was no exception to the general rule. Shortly after 8 o'clock, the tout ensemble were tripping the light fantastic toe to the merry strains of a waltz played by Quartly's string band, the whirling maze demonstrating that ah excellent programme had been commenced. As dance succeeded dance the merry peals of laughter betokened the enjoyment that was being experienced by those present. The floor was in capital order, which, no doubt, added considerably to the nature of the gathering. Dancing was vigorously indulged in for several hours, when a sumptuous supper provided was done justice to and greatly appreciated. During the interval a number of extra dances were played for by •several of the assemblage. The officials appointed to supervise the proceedings were assiduous in their efforts to make each and all enjoy themselves, and in that they succeeded admirably, and never throughout the evening did the function drag in any way, but went with a vim that invariably characterises successful gathering. The social was continned, until about two o'clock this morning, when the dancers dispersed, all being well satisfied with their evening's entertainment, and probably regretting that the 1909 social of St. George's Society had ended. The duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Mr F. W. Dodson, that official giving entire satisfaction. A children's dance will be held tonight, commencing at 7 o'clock and concluding shortly after 11.
