ADDINGTON STOCK SALES.

[press association.]

CHRISTCHURCH, April 21. At the Addiiigton yards to-day there was a large entry of all classes of stock, and a good -attendance. Fatcattle showed a further fall in. prices; fat lambs were firmer; store sheep showed no change; fat sheep opened at last week's rates, and closed a little firmer. Baconers and store pigs were in good demand, and porkers wore easier. Store and dairy cattle sold well.

The yarding of is'tore sheep was smaller'than last week, and the .sheep were.generally of better class. A large portion was formed of ewes, and among the lambs was a line of 350 merinos. There was a good attendance of buyers, and though the demand was better, prices showed practically no change. Nearly all lines of ewes found purchasers at late rates, while lambs mot with better inquiry. Several lots of very forward lambs changed hands at Us 6d to 12s, prices being an advance in sympathy with fat lamb rates. Wethers could bo sold only at low rates, forward ■r-orts making 9s to (Js 6d. T-ho yarding of fat lambs totalled

6780, as against 4350 last week and 7300 the- week before. For quality the yarding was one of the best of the season, and though prices were firmer by 6d to 9d per head it was principally due to improvement in the lambs themselves. All the export buyers were operating, and keenness of the demand was shown by the fact that 113 lots were put through in 115 minutes. There were 6337 taken for freezing at lls 4d to 15s (and one shorn line at lls to 12s 9d); 236 by butchers at lls 7d to 15s 2d, and 207 were bought by graziers. There was a large yarding of fat sheep, including some prime lines of wethers. The market opened at last week's rates, the export buyers not operating in the early part of the sale, me exporters afterwards operated freely in wethers. Extra prime wethers .sold to 20is, prime 14s 6d to 17s, lighter lls 3d to 14s; prime ewes 12s 6d to 15s sd, medium 10s to lls 6d, aged and light 7s 6d to- 9s 6d. The entry of fat cattle totalled 350 head, 'and included a number of very prime steers and heifers. The sale was very dull and dragging, and prices showed a further fall on the week. Steers made £5 17s 6d to £11, heifers £4 7s Gd to £S 12s 6d, and ■cows £4 5s to £7—equal to 18& 6d to 20s for prime, 16s to 18s for medium, and 14s to 15s 6d for cow and inferior per 1001b. There was a good sale foist ore cattle:

Pigs were entered in rather larger numbers than last week. _ Choppers and baconers sold well, while porkers were rather easier, and stores were in good demand.
